General FAQ's
We'll discuss your concerns and what you'd like to change. You'll learn the science behind Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and understand how the process works. Please note that there is no trance session during this initial consultation. This is your opportunity to ask questions and to decide if hypnotherapy is right for you. The initial consultation is usually by zoom, in the comfort of your own home and takes 45 minutes. There's no obligation to continue, but most prople book their first hypnotherapy session there and then.
Each session starts with solution-focused talking therapy. I will ask positive, solution-focused questions. This is an important first step as it starts the process of teaching the brain to form new connections for healthier, more positive reactions. This is followed by a relaxing hypnosis session, where your brain processes positive change. During the session, you remain completely aware and in control. You would make yourself comfortable lying down or reclining, with your head supported. A blanket may be used, as the body temperature lowers during hypnosis, just as in the early stages of relaxing when we fall sleep. A relaxing sound track will be played in the background and it will improve your experience if you wear headphones or ear pods. Sessions are 50 minutes long.
Clients report that they feel deeply relaxed, but focused. Often clients report vivid images as they are guided by my voice, visualise their desired outcome and experience shifts, such as release of tension. Clients often say that they look forward to the next session. This is your time, without distractions, to think about yourself and what you want for your life. You may continue to feel calm, relaxed and refreshed for some time afterwards.
Everyone is different, but most clients find that they make the progress they want with between 8 - 12 sessions. For most effective therapy, weekly sessions are recommended.
For the stop smoking and vaping programme, a single extended session of 2 hours is taken, with an audio track for you to listen to at home at least a week before your session, to support you in preparing to become a non-smoker.
Yes. Online sessions are provided via zoom. All you need is a good internet connection and a quiet, private space where you will not be disturbed. Make sure that you have somewhere you can get comfortable and relax. Online hypnotherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy and offers accessability and convienience.
Hypnotherapy is a complimentary approach. It can be used in conjunction with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or life coaching. If you have been diagnosed with a physical or mental health condition, or are taking prescribed medication, then at your initial consultation, we will discuss this and whether hypnotherapy is appropriate for you.
Hypnotherapy can be very effective for many people, but it isn't always the right fit for every situation. Some circumstances, like severe mental health difficulties (such as psychosis or schizophrenia) acute crises, certain neurological conditions, epilepsy or heart related issues, may require medical guidance. If you are under the care of a GP, psychiatrist or other health professional, their written consent may be needed. During your initial consultation, we can discuss your situation and relevant history to decide whether hypnotherapy is suitable for you and I'll always signpost you to alternative support it isn't.
